Boggle Letters have been a classic staple of literacy learning in the classroom–but we show you how to make your own version of this game, with a sensory twist! Use our large-sized Chipboard Letters for this activity!
Age: 3-6
Duration: 15 minutes
You’ll Need:
• Paint
• Scrap sensory material
• Glue
• Paper clips
The purpose of the Boggle Game is to select 16 letters and arrange them in a 4 x 4 grid. The randoms are chosen at random. Students can take turns trying to arrange the letters in combinations to make actual words. Children get points based on how many letters their word features. Note: Stop the game using timers or until students reach a certain number of words. The person with the most points wins the game!
To make your own Mix-Up Letters, you’ll need the R52101 Chipboard Letters with paint and leftover scrap material.
Select all 26 letters of the alphabet and paint the Chipboard Letters. You can glue on pieces of scrap material such as felt, fabric or foam pieces to give your letters a sensory edge!
To display your finished Mix-Up Letters, choose a section of your classroom where you can string across two rows of cord. Your Mix-Up Letters will be attached to this display using simple paper clips!
Tape two paper clips onto the back of the Chipboard Letter and bend out part of the wire to use it as a hook for the letter to hang off from.
Hang the letters onto the cord. Choose as many letters as you feel your students are comfortable enough to use in their word-making. Arrange the letters in random order and start the game!
If you decided to decorate your Mix-Up Letters with sensory materials, elaborate further on this project with sensory activities. Ask children to close their eyes while you place a random letter in front of them. Students can describe the texture on the letter and then feel around the edges of the letter to guess which letter it is!
