Mark a special pen or pencil with a colorful quill pen feather! Use our special R28421 Scissor Skills Paper to learn essential cutting skills by cutting out the feather shapes of varying difficulties. The cut feathers can then be used to decorate students’ pens and/or pencils.
You’ll need:
• Pen or pencil
• Tape
• Scissors
R28421 Scissor Skills Paper helps to develop fine motor skills in students by teaching them to hold the paper in one hand and cut around the curves, straight lines and jagged edges with the scissors in the other hand. For this activity, each student can cut one or two feathers of two different difficulties to decorate their school pens or pencils.
Cut out each feather from its backing and lay each one flat on the table. Make sure each feather is oriented so that the stem part of the leaf is facing you while the top point of the feather is facing away from you. Next, take the pencil or pen of your choice. Turn the pen in your hand so that the lead point is facing downwards.
Place the opposite side of the pen or pencil (the eraser part of the pencil) against the stem of the paper feather. Take a short length of tape and place across the base of the stem to secure the pencil to the paper feather. Wrap the ends of the tape around the pen or pencil to tuck away.
Now your students will enjoy pulling out their favorite pens and pencils for spelling exercises!
